About Us

Our mission at David’s Lawn & Landscape Design is: Magnificent Landscapes at Affordable Prices. David’s unique landscape and patio designs get noticed throughout our customers’ communities. A high percentage of our new jobs come from word-of-mouth referrals, which is the best type of advertising. Our field representatives can design everything from a simple, low-maintenance look to English country gardens to Asian-inspired Zen gardens. If a customer has an idea for a look, we can make it happen.

Our motto is: The Customer Comes First. Customer satisfaction is what we strive for; we will always stand behind our work. David is an ICPI certified paver installer and we guaranty all workmanship. The majority of our plant material comes from our Oregon nurseries, where the temperate climate helps to grow beautiful plant specimens. This enables us to offer a 1-year warranty on our plants. We don’t just install and move on; we will be here long after your job is completed.

We offer everything from lawn mowing and landscape maintenance to design and installation of landscapes and pavers. We have been in business since the late 1980s, when David’s father, Richard, started a small lawn mowing and landscape maintenance concern. David worked with him during high school, and then took over management of the business after graduating college with a Horticulture degree. Over the past 30 years, he has grown the company from one crew to twelve; from working out of his basement after hours to an office and sales staff of 7.

Local businessman David Van Wart is the owner of David’s Lawn & Landscape Design, a company that’s been working in local communities since the late 1980s. The company has its roots with David’s father Richard, doing small landscape jobs for local residents. A teenager, David would help him out with trimming, cleanup work and lawn mowing. He developed such a passion for the work that after high school, he entered Brookdale Community College and earned a degree in Horticulture. He was then able to start designing his own landscapes as a Certified Landscape Designer; and ICPI certification in hardscape installation as well when landscape pavers became popular.

As his product offerings grew, his work force grew as well. He’s been able to retain his workers year after year, and many of his customers know our foremen almost as well as they know David! Our crews work long hours in heat and cold, sometimes rain, and even snow. David’s truly is a family business, as many of our workers are related.

David’s family grew as well. By 2005, his wife and 2 boys were outgrowing their townhouse and his office outgrew the basement. He relocated his family to a house in Monroe which he promptly outfitted with a display patio and gardens. He relocated the business first to an office building on Route 33, and then in 2009 to his new nursery site in Manalapan. He also took on a new Field Sales Representative, Tom Kayhart, to help with estimates and free up his evenings to coach baseball, basketball, and soccer for his boys. Joining David and Tom is his nephew, Tyler, who achieved his Bachelor of Sciences degree in Landscape Design and Build from Delaware Valley University to develop into a landscape designer and sales rep for our company.

Each winter David, Tom, Tyler and his foremen attend nursery and hardscaping trade shows, taking classes on new techniques and refresher courses on old standards. His travels to the nurseries of Oregon to get the best plant specimens found him involved in his own nursery business there. This gives him access to beautiful plant stock and many unusual types of plants, as well. He takes continuing education courses through Rutgers in order to stay on top of ever-changing legislation and business practices. He also does snow-plowing when the need arises. In his free time, in addition to coaching sports for his sons he enjoys traveling, horse racing, and spending time with family & friends.
